Alan Coren was born in 1939, educated at Oxford, Yale and Berkley universities, winning employement as deputy editor of Punch, TV reviewer, and columnist for the Daily Mail. His other works include The Dog It Was That Died, All Except The Bastard and The Sanity Inspector.
