Beatrice Webb (1858-1943)
From Literary Anecdotes About 19th Century Authors Born After 1829

Yacht Club, London, Wednesday, May 9th.

`Poetry means nothing to me. It confuses me. I always want to translate it back into prose.'

From The Journals of Arnold Bennett, 1911-1921 (1932), p. 196.
