Charles Kingsley (1819-1875)

OF the late Master of Trinity—Dr. Thompson—it was said:

`He casteth forth his ice like morsels. Who is able to abide his frost? . . . '

He was nothing if not critical. At Seeley's inaugural lecture as Professor of History Dr Thompson's only remark was—

'Well, well. I did not think we could so soon have had occasion to regret poor Kingsley.'

From Russell, Collections, p. 172.
