Anecdote about
Charles Kingsley
(1819-1875)

From Russell, Collections, p. 172.

OF the late Master of Trinity—Dr. Thompson—it was said: `He casteth forth his ice like morsels. Who is able to abide his frost?' . . . He was nothing if not critical. At Seeley's inaugural lecture as Professor of History Dr Thompson's only remark was—'Well, well. I did not think we could so soon have had occasion to regret poor Kingsley.'
