A collateral branch of the House of Bourbon. Louis I., Prince of Conde (1530-1569), a spirited soldier, who became a Protestant and opposed the Guises. The second Louis (1621-1686), " the great Conde," was equally distinguished in arms and in letters. Louis Joseph Conde (1736-1818) did all he could to save the monarchy at the Revolution.
