Mahomet was given a milk-white beast, like an ass, upon which to ride to heaven. He kept a pigeon which ate out of his ear and brought him divine messages. "Pigeon" is here altered to widgeon, a species of wild duck whose stupidity was proverbial; thus a term for a fool or dolt.
