Something Weird by Carl Nagel;
Part One: Dimension X
Open Your Mind
A group of people sat on chairs arranged along the four
walls of a small room discussing things beyond the eye and
the physical touch; of seeing the future with their unseeing
eyes, when something uninvited came to visit. Silhouetted in
the light of the room's solitary window a tall, gray form
stood silent and menacing. The air in the room became tense,
its occupants waiting anxiously for the dark intruder to
make its intent known. The gray, humanoid form began to
move. It shuffled across the room towards a dark, somewhat
sinister looking man. Slowly raised its arm and pointed at
him. Then abruptly it was gone.

It was December 1978, and I was at the Sydney headquarters
of the Psychic Research Society of Australia. I had become a
member of the Society a mere four weeks earlier to study the
mysteries of the soul and the universe, only to find the
subject bewildering and full of apparent contradictions. The
weekly meetings were confined to psychometric exercises and
lectures on the limitless virtues of spiritualism, which the
guy in charge believed were of main interest to the
unfortunate sitters. I had joined the organization in the
hope of gaining an insight into the benefits, material and
spiritual, that could be quickly gained by the study and
application of occultism and one's own higher instincts,
only to find the weekly classes both repetitive and dull. My
pursuit of knowledge and fulfilment through the occult
seemed doomed to failure, until now. There was something
special and very familiar about the mysterious entity and
its actions, and the effect its brief presence had upon the
people gathered in the small room that fateful day.

As we talked on into the late afternoon, it was difficult to
know if we had really seen something in the room. We had to
consider that it could have been a shadow cast by something
going past the window. I had been sitting facing the window
with my eyes closed when the entity came and stood in front
of me, blocking out the light shining in through the window.
That idea was quickly dismissed as we were on the fourth
floor, and the only thing that could have cast such a big
shadow would have to be an aircraft. Aircraft flying at such
a low altitude through the heart of a city are a very rare
sight. Birds the size of a small aircraft are even rarer,
someone suggested it had been a bird flying past. Others
concluded that it had been an omen of some sort. Perhaps it
had been the work of black magic!

Black magic is the most popularly publicised aspect of
occultism; its purpose being to repel spiritual forces in
order to attract demonic agencies for selfish or evil ends.
The practice of black magic is widespread and usually
involves blood sacrifices and other loathsome activities,
and accounts for many inexplicable and tragic events that
          occur in the world.

I had an interesting emotional reaction (interesting, that
is, to me) to this event. I felt a strange sensation.
          Something indefinite, haunting. Like something
half-forgotten, a far away memory returning again. When I
was six or seven years old, one bright sunny day, I was
playing in the backyard of the family home when I happened
to look up and saw a tall, gray colored entity standing over
me. It made no sound and had no eyes, ears, nose, mouth, or
anything like that - it was just like a solid gray form. I
screamed aloud and shouted for my parents, but the weird
entity vanished before anyone else had time to see it.

Though we learned very little about our uninvited guest that
day so long ago, its appearance in our midst had indeed been
a sinister omen, within three months the class would cease
to be. The Gray Man, as I have come to call him, is one of
the many mysterious entities who populate an invisible
sphere of existence which duplicates the physical world in
which we live. This unseen world is mysterious, awesome and
          sometimes frightening.

To experience this other world you must rid yourself of old
thought patterns, and open your mind to other realities
beyond this sphere. There is life all around you. Everything
radiates energy. Pick any object in your home that you look
at every day, and which you believe to be almost alive.

Now begin to believe it is alive.

It is very simple to do this and when it appears to blink
(if the object is a figurine of some kind) or move,
transformation will take place like a light being switched
on inside your mind. Once this happens, expect various
remarkable phenomena to occur, ie. shadows will come alive,
spirits will manifest, flowers will speak, and the invisible
          will become visible.

The psychic formula which I have just described was given to
me by a disembodied entity, during the world's strangest
telephone conversation with a young channeller from
          Victoria, Australia.

Welcome to Dimension X. A phantasmagorical world filled with
faceless entities who spread confusion and fear, ancient
spirits who rise out of legend, phantom spaceships that
appear from the clouds of dreams, restless ghosts victimised
by supernatural creatures, conversations with disembodied
entities, and things that go bump in the night.
