Goebbels remarked with a similar illustration: 'Just the same in Germany; a few flames burn brightly, the others only reflect their light' (My Part in Germany's Fight, entry for 4th January 1932). Almost the same remark emerges apparently exactly a year later, on 3rd January 1933, in this same diary.
