Statements by Bracher, Die nationalsozialistische Machtergreifung; also Kurt Hirche, 'Nationalsozialistischer Hochschulsommer', Die Hilf, 15th August 1931. See also Thomas Litt, 'The National-Socialist Use of Moral Tendencies', printed in International Council for Philosophy and Humanistic Studies. The Third Reich (London and New York, 1955), which says in reference to the student body:

'It was from their ranks that the Party drew the most devoted, ingenious and resolute champions.'

In his letter to the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Bonn University Thomas Mann also speaks of

'the heavy share of guilt for all current misfortune which the German universities have burdened themselves with' (see Gesammelte Werke, Vol. X14
