Hess adds to this the following remark which emphatically proves his unbroken fanaticism: 'To be sure I don't agree entirely [with Hitler's remark]: There was not only one such person, but at least two. Perhaps if he did not want to know the truth or was not aware of it- his remark speaks for him. In that event I knew him better than he knew himself. This is not modest chatter on my part but my honest opinion.'
