17 Röhm was occasionally called the 'machine-gun king of Bavaria'; see Hofmann, Der Hitlerputsch. What quantities were involved becomes evident in view of the fact that 'of the material which was required and procured for the enlargement of the Army after Hitler's seizure of power, a third came from the Army stock "saved" by Röhm' (Bor, Gespräche mit Halder).
