Note 3
Note to A Letter by Erasmus to Maarten Van Dorp, from "The Praise Of Folly"

On the mixture of truth and falsehood in Erasmus's account of the circumstances of the Folly's composition, see the Introduction (pp. xliv-xlv). Erasmus always attributed his trouble with kidney stone to the wine he had had to drink while staying at Venice with Aldus in 1507-8.
