Reflection 19

This reflection was suppressed in the sixth and subsequent editions. Its first paragraph refers to Bussy-Rabutin, who lived in retirement after his disgrace in 1666 and only returned to Court in 1687; the second paragraph, added in the fourth edition, probably refers to Lauzun, who was restored to the royal favour after he had come to the aid of James II and his family. The suppression may possibly have been due to a wish not to offend Bussy-Rabutin.
